Scheduled XMPP Server Upgrade

We will be upgrading the XMPP server engine in the coming days to improve performance, reliability, and feature support. Here is what you need to know.

When

The migration is scheduled for Friday, July 3rd 2026 at 22:00 CEST. The expected downtime is approximately 10 minutes.

What is changing

We are upgrading to a new, modern XMPP server engine. This brings several improvements:

  • Better performance and lower resource usage
  • Improved mobile support (Push Notifications, Client State Indication)
  • Modern WebSocket connectivity
  • Enhanced group chat (MUC) capabilities
  • HTTP file upload improvements

What you need to do

In most cases: nothing. Your XMPP client (Conversations, Monal, Gajim, etc.) will automatically reconnect after the short maintenance window.

If you experience login issues after the upgrade, simply re-enter your password in your client. Your username and password remain the same. No account has been lost -- all your contacts and message history are preserved.

Quick checklist

  • Your JID (e.g. you@uuxo.net) stays the same
  • Your contacts and roster are preserved
  • Your message archive (MAM) is migrated
  • Your password remains unchanged
  • If login fails: re-enter your password in your client settings
